Brian McKinney is a building professional with 15 years of experience working to improve the built environment. The past 13 of those years have been spent as an energy specialist in New York City, during which he has used simulation and analysis to optimize building performance on some of the most demanding and high-profile projects in the country. These projects have included world-class museums, super-tall office high rises, ivy league university buildings, resilient embassies in developing nations, and best-in-class hospitals and laboratories. He has worked at the cutting edge of HVAC design, advancing concepts such as “ice heating,” and promoting system sizing for global warming. He also served as a mentor, a teacher, and a manager as he created and developed the energy modeling practice at one of NYC’s leading MEP firms. Now, as the Owner and Principal at Flash Energy Consulting, he is committed to providing expert guidance to architects, engineers, developers, and building operators seeking to make the energy story of their project one of its main selling points.

Brian is an ASHRAE Building Energy Modeling Professional (BEMP) and a LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP). He has a Bachelors in Architecture from Carnegie Mellon University and a Masters of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Stanford University.
